    The Roman emperor Diocletian built a palace in Dalmatia in 305 A.D., which became the foundation of today’s city of Split.
    The Diocletian Palace in Split is built like a city within a city, fortified by its high surrounding walls on the outside and containing a grid-work of monumental courts, temples, apartments and cult buildings on the inside.
    3,500 years old granite Sphinx brought from Egypt can be found inside Diocletian's Palace at Jupiter's Temple.
    Diocletian's Palace is one of the biggest and well preserved late antique palaces in the world.
    Born in Split, a tennis player Goran Ivanišević won Wimbledon in 2001 after entering the tournament on a wild card.
