Marina Kremik – Skradin (23 Nm)
Our first destination on this beautiful tour is Skradin. The town of Skradin, situated in the Šibenik hinterland nearby the second national park in the Šibenik-Knin region – the Krka National Park, is especially important for yachtsmen since a marina is located here, and it is the closest one to the famous waterfalls of the river Krka.
National Park Krka is a fairytale world with glorious scenery and particular value of a beautiful river. One of the most wonderful waterfalls – Skradinski Buk (Krka falls 46 m) is Europe’s largest travertine barrier. National Park Krka also has the only hawk training center in Croatia where you can see presentations of hunting with hawks and hawk trainers’ skills. Besides waterfalls, you can visit old water mills, indicating historical and cultural background of the people in that area, and of course enjoy in an exceptional wealth of flora and fauna. Don’t forget to leave some time for swimming in the beautiful clear river water.
Skradin – Prosika (25 Nm) – Murter, Murter (2 Nm)
Second stop on our tour is Vransko jezero which is one of the Croatia’s Parks of nature. This largest lake in Croatia is a rare example of crypto depression ( the bottom of the lake lies below sea level while the water surface lies above). Its importance lies in a fact that it gathers great diversity of ornithofauna (249 species).
We will berth in a small harbor Prosika – one of the main entrances to the Park. We can take a short walk towards Jugovir, where you can see restored Borelli’s fisherman’s hut. This small building is one of several similar objects that had a function of shelter for the guarding service. Its function was the control of eel catch, as it was built on the location of migration through the underground flows to the Adriatic and back to the Lake. The etymology of the Croatian term Jugovir is a vivid illustration of the hydrological phenomenon (jugo: the south wind; vir: eddy) – when the south wind blows the sea-water springs out from underground at this very spot and flows over into the lake. Eels take advantage of this and migrate to the sea through the underground passage.
While here, think of renting a bike for a tour around the lake, or maybe renting a canoe and enjoying a silent ride on the water.
At the sunset we sail to our harbor for today – Murter. It is the largest and the oldest town on the island of Murter. Murter is often referred to as the ”capital” of Kornati, since its residents own almost all of the Kornati and the neighboring islands.
Murter, Murter – Žut, Žut (14 Nm)
The Žut is a nautical paradise and one of the islands in the Kornati archipelago. It lies between the islands of Pašman and Ugljan (which is linked to the mainland). It is the second largest in size (14.82 km2) and second highest (176 m) island in the Kornati archipelago, and also has the largest area of cultivated and cleared land. It lies alongside the island Kornat, separated only by the Žut Channel. A special value within this channel are the meadows of sea grass (Posedonia oceanica), which are of the utmost importance for the survival and reproduction of marine organisms and maintaining marine biodiversity.
Once near the island, it feels far to all the amenities and you get the feeling of being on a Robinson island. Žut is covered with olive, fig trees and vines and has no permanent settlements. However, Žut Island has a lovely marina, complete with a good tavern, Restaurant Festa.
Žut, Žut – Dugi otok, Telašćica (10 Nm) – Dugi otok, Sali (8 Nm)
Telašćica is a nature park named after the bay which is located in the southeastern part of Dugi Otok. The bay is about 8 km depth of 1.6 kilometers wide. In Telašćica bay are 25 large and small coves, bays, 5 islets. Thanks to its location it is well protected against Gulf storms. Telašćica is one of the largest and best protected bays in the eastern Adriatic coast. It consists of three parts separated by narrower. These three elements are Tripuljak, Farfarikulac and Telašćica. The greater part of the bay bottom is covered with groups of marine flowering plants, marine habitats, and an extraordinary rich wildlife which is essential for the reproduction of many fish species.
Today we will find shelter in Sali. It is a place of a thousand-years-old fishing tradition, which was confirmed by written documents from the 10th century and ancient olive groves surrounding the village witness the intensive agricultural activities throughout the centuries. The cultural heritage of Sali is represented by sacred buildings such as the parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary with a gorgeous wooden altar from the 17th century and inscriptions written in Glagolitic (the oldest known Slavic alphabet from the 9th century).
Dugi otok, Sali – Kornati (11 Nm) – Žirje (18 Nm)
And today we finally sail to Kornati. Because of the extraordinary beauty of landscape, the abundance of natural bays and the rich sea flora and fauna, out of 152 of Kornati islands, 89 of them were declared a national park in 1980.
Cruising the Kornati for the first time, you will surely notice hundreds of meters of the so- called ”dry walls”. Our ancestors built them with their own hands, come rain or shine, in order to keep their land and protect their pasture-ground, i.e. to prevent sheep from crossing from one pasture into the other. On some of the islands the length of these walls reaches up to 70 km, as it does on the island of Kornat.
Having cruised around the Kornati and the Šibenik archipelago, it is time to end the island trip with a visit to the island Žirje. Here is the beautiful bay V. Stupice. V. Stupice is a good anchor bay. There are also solid even buoys that can be used freely. The bay is a wonderful natural harbor with excellent protection and natural beauty. In the bay there is a restaurant where one can eat typical, homemade Mediterranean cuisine. Dining experience is not great why you might skip a visit if you do not have to. Sit in the boat and enjoy the food you make yourself instead. The wonderful environment is of course free of charge in any case.
Žirje, Žirje – Marina Kremik (16 Nm)
Last cruise towards our Marina. Last night, it is common to check out the boat so that there are no commitments on Saturday mornings because transfer from the port often goes early. So check out for some dinner at a cozy local tavern.
The wonderful environment is of course free of charge
