The main and largest city of Slavonia, The city is located in the beautiful Danube valley on the right bank of the Drava River 22 km from the mouth of the Danube. It was a Roman military camp and a civilian settlement. Osijek was granted the title of a Free Royal City and during the early 19th century it was the largest city in Croatia. Osijek is made from old town – Fortress, built in the early 18th century in Baroque style, then the upper, lower and the new city with classicism, historicism and Art Nouveau, and Retfala Visnjevac. Today is a candidate for the UNESCO World Heritage List; the town of plains, fields and tambourines.
